Local Area Committees

Fife Council’s 23 wards are grouped into seven area committees:

  • Cowdenbeath Area Committee
  • Dunfermline Area Committee
  • Glenrothes Area Committee
  • Kirkcaldy Area Committee
  • Levenmouth Area Committee
  • North East Fife Area Committee
  • South West Fife Area Committee

Area Committees are responsible for addressing the needs of their communities. They:

  • determine local matters that affect their area
  • scrutinise service delivery and performance locally
  • monitor the impact of council and other public services on the community

Local Community Planning

Each Area Committee has its own Local Community Plan.

Local Community Planning is about making a positive difference to the communities we live in. By bringing together local communities with public, voluntary, and private sector organisations we can identify and influence the issues that are important to us all.

By working with local people and service providers we can take local action that leads to lasting positive change. Together, we can improve our communities and quality of life.

Local Getting it Right & Early Years Groups

Fife’s Children’s Services Plan and Early Years Strategy set priorities for Fife as a whole. But people in different areas have different needs.
There are local Getting it Right and Early Years groups active in each area.
These local groups carry out unique analysis to identify priorities for their area. This localised knowledge helps make sure children can get the support they need.

Locality Networks

In March 2018 the Education & Children’s Services Committee members endorsed the vision for Education and Children’s Services to become ‘A Better Connected Directorate for 2020’ (ABCD).  The systems re-design involved a move to strengthen local networks to ensure decisions that shape the wellbeing and education of children and young people are made by those working with them at local level.

The system re-design also aimed to support the move towards a more self-improving system through fully utilising the wealth of skills and expertise that exist within the Directorate and the Children’s Services Partnership (including NHS Fife, Police Scotland, 3rdSector, Communities, Housing) supporting strong partnership working and outcomes focussed collaboration.
